Help Us Get to Haiti to Help
My partner Marly and I have reached out to our close friends and family asking for help.
We’v both reached the point where the thing to do that makes the most sense is to get to Haiti to help folks there in whatever ways are possible; we’ve asked people to help us get there and bring supplies there.
Recognizing the folly in simply going to Haiti without being part of an organized effort, we have teamed up with David Pierre-Louis and his efforts to empower Haitians in their own recovery efforts.

[UPDATE: Friday Jan 29th 8:52AM]: Friends, family, and community institutions have shown great support to us for this effort and it’s been very touching and empowering! We have collected enough to acquire our plane tickets. I have updated the needs below based on what we have received and been pledged so far. We cannot thank everyone enough. We will continue to update the status of our effort throughout the weekend.
Additionally, we learned that David (and 5 other people) are actually arriving on Tuesday, so we will now be leaving on Tuesday morning for Haiti via the Dominican Republic. (We also got the surprising and inspiring news that one of our community members Jesus G. has decided to travel with us to Haiti!) This gives us an extra day to collect supplies and prepare for this experience: strategically, emotionally, and spiritually.
[UPDATE: Sunday Jan 31st 12:55PM]: We have been able to raise the entire amount needed for this trip to Haiti. The way that community has stepped in to support this effort has been uplifting. We are invigorated and purposeful and look forward to helping in Haiti without pity or condescension, prepared to be inspired by the struggle that African people across the planet continuously surmount.
