On a typical day I end up listening to a bunch of different things:
Most significantly are the Beats, the beats, and the beats. Not sure why a driving baseline is creative fuel for me while I’m stringing together code, layout out graphical elements, or sketching my newest worse drawing ever . but it is. Very much so.
Consequently, as an homage to the grand ol Internet, I am here listing the BANGINEST (read: should not be missed) radio shows and mixes on the Internet.
These shows exist ONLY on the Internet.
Sadly, no radio station in the US market is brave enough to play even 1% of the great music that you’ll likely hear in any of the shows below. So with that said, listen, enjoy, and in turn put me onto great shows that you like and have found online. I will update this list into perpetuity (either that or until I next decide not to update my blog for 4 months).
The list after the jump . . .
NOTE: some of these are direct links to RSS feeds, others to webpages.
Benji B’s Deviation on BBC’s 1xtra (not sure how to properly big up this show. Let’s just say, if I [still] had a radio show, I would do my best to make it flow like this one. It’s at the top of the list for a good reason. You. Must. Listen).

Soulsearching by Michael Ruetten (this show has been the source of great, new music to my ears way too many times to count. German).

Nu Wave Radio (don’t sleep on these British brothers! Hip Hop, Broken/Nu Jazz/Housey/Nu Soul styles - the whole cornucopia. Constant inspiration).

Beyondjazz.net Radio Show (great mixtures of styles, always fresh, always new with a STRONG archive of past worldwide jammies. I think this comes out of Amsterdam. Don’t quote me on that one).

Broken Beat Radio (from a crew out of Philly, not so regularly updated, but when it is, it’s golden. Check out the archives for more excellence).

HVW8 Sessions (this is an LA crew. Don’t know too much about them other than the incredible LIVE artwork installations that they do / have done. When checking out their site, I came across their live mix recordings. Nice).

MondayJazz Mixtapes (strictly beats blended and strung by various people known and unknown. I think it was an Eric Lau mix that lead me to this site once, or maybe Dorian Concept. Not sure. Either way, haven’t turned back since. My favorite episode so far is #39 Blackjack Beats).

Deeper Shades of House (if you need that soulful house fix. Nuff said. Well, I’ll say a little more, because this show won’t be for everyone - and sometimes it’s not even for me. The DJ, Lars Behrenroth, does tend to go sorta deep deep with it. But it’s only 1 out of every 10 shows that I can’t listen to all the way thru).

Offtrack with Dirk Rumpff (I used to listen to this show a lot more than I do now. For a period Dirk was playing a lot of left field stuff and had these long interviews with artists that weren’t so compelling to me. But I think it’s time to revisit - this week’s playlist looks pretty tight).

TRIVIA: I initially put this list together for Cy who is stuck in Dominican Republic with wack radio but good broadband. These were my solutions to her malaise. Big up Cy for being the motivating factor.
